MHFA STANDARD REFRESHER

FOR WORKPLACES

MHFA Refresher Courses are available to individuals who have completed a previous Mental Health First Aid training course (face-to-face, blended or online) to update their knowledge and build on their acquired skills. They are an essential part of maintaining accreditation as an MHFAider in Australia.

Refresher courses must be completed within 3 years of achieving an MHFAider accreditation. The accreditation is the short online assessment process participants conduct at the end of each course. Refresher courses formalise skills as an MHFAider in the workplace.

Eligibility

Participants who have completed any full MHFA course within the last 3 years.
Participants who have completed your course face-to-face, blended or online.
Participants who have completed the accreditation assessment to become an MHFAider.
Participants who want their skills and accreditation to stay current, practical, and recognised.

Why Refresh?
• Continual Learning: Continuous learning is essential to quality education and training.

• Knowledge retention: Research shows that learned knowledge can decrease over time but can be reinforced for better long-term retention.

• Accreditation: Completing a refresher is required to maintain a formally recognised MHFAider Accreditation. It extends your accreditation for another 3 years.

• Safety: Keeping people up to date with knowledge and skills is crucial for the safety of participants, communities, and the people they assist.

• Skill building: Refresher content builds on existing knowledge and skills through revisiting and improving understanding and abilities.

• Real-world application: Refresher training increases participant confidence in applying what they have learned in real-life situations.

• Professional development: Refresher training contributes to Professional Development (CPD), often recognised or required by employers.

• Valued by employers: Employers and employees highly regard current and accredited MHFA training as a respected and valuable resource.

• Efficient and effective: It is more efficient (time and cost) and effective to refresh your training than letting accreditation lapse and starting again.

• Currency: The world and our environments are constantly changing. Refresher training allows for current discussions and examples, using our evidence base and the latest delivery techniques.

• Participants can complete a short assessment at the end of a course to extend their Mental Health First Aid Accreditation for a further 3 years
