If you’ve been injured at work, it can be overwhelming to navigate treatment, paperwork, and return-to-work planning. Here are practical tips for getting psychological support in Victoria.

1. Speak to Your GP Early

It’s a good idea to seek guidance from your GP early. A GP can help with

  • medical advice regarding a potential workplace injury

  • providing a diagnosis

  • completing certificates of capacity

  • determining work capacity and return to work timeframes

  • referrals to access WorkSafe-funded psychological services.

2. Don’t Delay Support and Ask About Provisional Payments and

Early intervention reduces the risk of long-term problems and supports a faster return to work. WorkSafe may cover up to 13 weeks of psychological services while your claim is processed and determined.

3. Choose a Registered Psychologist

Confirm your psychologist is WorkSafe-registered and clarify whether there are any gap payments.
